SDG are known as Sustainable Development Goals. This is a call from the United Nations (UN) to all countries around the world to address the major challenges facing humanity, towards a better and more sustainable future for all people by 2030. The Sustainable Development Goals are divided into 17 specific goals related to the most common issues, thereby providing direction for individuals, businesses, governments and countries to know what issues must be paid attention to and how to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, protect the earth from the human life impacts and ensure the improvement of the life quality for each person. The United Nations identified 17 goals for 2030 including:
Goal 1 (No Poverty): End poverty in all its forms everywhere
Goal 2 (Zero Hunger): End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being): Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Goal 4 (Quality Education): Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
Goal 5 (Gender Equality): Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation): Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth): Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure): Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
Goal 10 (Reduce Inequalities): Reduce inequality within and among countries
Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production): Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Goal 13 (Climate Action): Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Goal 14 (Life Below Water): Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
Goal 15 (Life On Land): Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
Goal 16 (Pace, Justice and Strong Institutions): Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
Goal 17 (Parnerships for the Goals): Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015 are determined by 169 specific goals and 232 targets, aiming to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. In Vietnam, on May 10, 2017, the Prime Minister issued the National Action Plan to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, of which sets out 17 sustainable development goals with 115 specific goals. After that, Decision No.681/QD-TTg on the Roadmap for implementation of Vietnam’s sustainable development goals by 2030 issued on June 4, 2019. The most recent is the Resolution on sustainable development (Resolution No.136/NQ-CP) issued on September 25, 2020.
Sustainable development has become a global trend. Members of the United Nations, including Vietnam, have been actively integrating the targets of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their socio-economic development strategies.
Throughout its development process, with task of the construction of irrigation and hydropower projects, C47 has been and is contributing an important part in the management, effective use and security assurance of water resources, and dam safety serve sustainable production and people’s lives. That is why Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) is one of the important Sustainable Development Goals that C47 always strives towards. In addition to Goal 6, C47 is also working towards Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
